Ngunguru Coast
ngunguru

Just 21/2 hours north of Auckland in the "Winterless North".

An area steeped in history, with numerous beaches diverse in nature yet each beautiful in their own unique way, coast and reserve walks and varied countryside with rivers and estuaries to explore yet only 30 minutes from Whangarei, a popular destination for international yachts and the renowned Town Basin cafes, restaurants and speciality shops, galleries, theatres and museums.

The Paradise Coast beaches range from tiny "secret" coves to long sandy, stretches. From safe swimming for the family to world class surf. Opportunities range from scuba diving, snorkelling, surfing, water skiing, bush walking and wild adventure sports for the active to kayaking, swimming, fishing, tennis, golf, bowls and sedate riverboat trips for those who like to take things at a steadier pace.

Pacific Bay is a north-facing beach within Tutukaka Harbour. Unseen from the heads road it is less frequented by passing visitors than its neighbours and is a designated safe swimming beach. Situated just 5 minutes from the facilities of Tutukaka Marina and Ngunguru yet peacefully secluded. Ideal for snorkelling and kayaking. Dolphin visits are a highlight while the call of Tui and Morepork are commonplace.

Tutukaka Marina is the hub of activity on the Paradise Coast. Home to the award winning Dive Tutukaka operation to the Poor Knights Islands (rated as one of the world's Top 10 dive locations) and the wrecks "Tui" and "Wakaito" the marina has several boat charters on offer for both excursions to the off-shore islands and fishing. Kayak hire is also available. A range of cafes, restaurants, shops and bars + "Soul" spa all just 5 minutes from Pacific Bay.

Ngunguru and its famous sandspit is a destination in itself. The village Sports Centre offers 9 hole golf, tennis and bowls with a restaurant and bar. Overlooking the water, Ngunguru Take-away and Salt Air Café offer alternative eating options (Salt Air also take telephone orders for quality meals from breakfasts- mains for collection ).
